    This class will introduce a powerful troubleshooting method designed to spark discussion and hands-on engagement. You’ll walk away with a practical tool you can immediately apply to analyze shrink porosity, gas porosity, CMM issues, core oversized conditions, and leak test stand problems. This method not only highlights the importance of teamwork in effective problem-solving but also serves as one of several valuable approaches to troubleshooting that can be applied across a wide range of challenges.

    Meet the Speakers

    Sean Frank
    Mechanical Engineer, Mercury Marine 

    Sean Frank is a Mechanical Engineer at Mercury Marine where he oversees the HPDC manufacturing of V cylinder blocks for Mercury’s outboard engines. With his certification in Magmasoft, Sean manages Mercury’s daily simulation activities with an emphasis on resolving challenging defects and optimization of castings and tooling. He holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Michigan Technological University and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in mechanical engineering with a focus on computational fluid dynamics.


    Brian Wallace
    Engineering Manager, Mercury Marine 

    Brian joined Mercury Marine in 2011 as a Production Supervisor in Machining and Lost Foam. He then moved into High Pressure Diecast Engineering as a Manufacturing Engineer and eventually as a Lead.  Currently, he serves as the Manufacturing Engineering Manager for the Metal Casting & Finishing Plant, as well as the Plant Manager for Capitol Engineering; Mercury’s Tool and Die shop.

    Brian earned a Certificate in Leadership from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, an MBA from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, and a Bachelor of Science in Manufacturing Technology Management from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.

    Brian is an active member of the North American Die Cast Association (NADCA), the American Foundry Society (AFS), and the Tool, Die & Machining Association of Wisconsin (TDMAW). Brian also serves on the AFS George Barker Scholarship board of directors and chairs the NADCA Chapter 12 scholarship committee.



    Anthony Rodriguez
    Quality Manager, Boyd Corporation

    Anthony Rodriguez is the Quality Manager for Boyd Corporation in Allenton, WI. Anthony has been in the quality field for 15 years. 8 of those years being in the high-pressure aluminum die casting industry. Anthony has completed multiple LSS Green Belt projects with a combined total of an estimated $500,000 in hard savings. He has been a NADCA Chapter 12 Education Committee member for 3 years. With an A.A.S in Quality Engineering Technology from Fox Valley Tech, Anthony also sits on Fox Valley Tech’s Quality Engineering Industry Advisory Committee.



    Melissa Carter
    HPDC Simulation Manager
    , NEMAK

    Melissa Carter is the HPDC Simulation Manager of North America at Nemak, where she specializes in casting simulation for new products, production, and development.  With over 17 years’ experience in simulations for HPDC, Melissa has led initiatives in defect reduction, process improvement and CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) standardization.

    Her background includes Bachelors and a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering with a certificate in leadership training in both NEXT and Front-Line Manager for Nemak.  She has presented at NADCA and AFS workshops and conferences, sharing practical insights and proved strategies for solving complex problems effectively and efficiently and currently chairs the Education Board for NADCA Chapter 12.
